  • Spreading Seeds of Gratitude™

Gratitude is essential for gardeners of any age, as it serves as the foundation for planting positive seeds in our gardens. Being grounded in a mindset of gratitude and appreciation helps in maintaining a sense of calm and confidence. In today's world, spreading seeds of gratitude is beneficial for gardeners of all generations. We work hard to cultivate positive emotions and appreciate our flowers (our joyful feelings), especially when the weeds (negative emotions) pop up in our garden.Practicing gratitude allows gardeners to focus on the beauty and positivity surrounding us, rather than getting caught up in our weeds. Scroll down for ways to spread seeds of gratitude, to download or FREE Spreading Seeds of Gratitude ™ Activity Kit to use at home or in school  , and scroll all the way down to Collect Your Gardening Tool Badge for this activity! Cultivating a mindset of gratitude and appreciation can help gardeners navigate through difficult times (our weeds) with resilience and optimism. By focusing on the beauty and growth within our own gardens, we can find joy in even the smallest of achievements, like writing in a gratitude journal or writing a letter to a loved one . This mindful approach can be a powerful gardening tool to help gardeners of all ages overcome challenges, while encouraging a balanced and optimistic outlook. By recognizing the positives (our flowers) in our lives, we can c ultivate feelings of appreciation and gratitude that can significantly enhance our overall well-being . This practice of focusing on the positive aspects can create a ripple effect, leading to improved mental health, stronger relationships, and a more optimistic outlook on life. When we take the time to acknowledge and cherish the beauty around us, no matter how small, we begin to shift our perspective from what we lack to what we have. This shift can empower us to face challenges with resilience and hope, knowing that there is always something to be thankful for. So gardeners, let’s make it a daily habit to water our flowers, nurturing a garden of gratitude that is ever blooming. Just as tending to a garden requires patience and dedication, fostering gratitude in our lives is an ongoing process that requires attention and care. Our sense of gratitude flourishes when we actively cultivate it. This can be through simple daily practices such as keeping a gratitude journal, where we note down moments that bring us joy or appreciation. Another way is by expressing thankfulness to those around us, creating a ripple effect of positivity and connection. Gratitude isn't just about acknowledging the good times. • Meet Gardener Margaux -Licensed Associate Counselor

Hello gardeners! Today, we are excited to feature Margaux Rustad MA, LAC , with whom we have been collaborating with since late spring. Gardener Margaux is a Licensed Associate Counselor  at Ellie Mental Health in Parsippany, NJ. She reached out to Gardener Shanna directly for guidance on developing a group counseling program based on the You Are a Gardener® foundation. Having attended a #PullYourWeeds® event a couple of years back, Gardener Margaux resonated deeply with our message. Collaboratively, we outlined easy and impactful methods to incorporate our vocabulary and mindset into counseling sessions for young children. Let’s check in with Gardener Margaux to see how it’s growing: "I implemented a loose curriculum based on some activities and the language of the book with a couple of my kiddos, and so far, it has been really positive! One kiddo even mentioned that she had seen the book at school which made me happy. I think it has been helpful for me too, to engage in getting comfortable with the language and the activities as almost a "trial run" of what will work best in a counseling setting. I have learned that the kiddos can relate to the language and find it makes it easier for them to express their emotions, plus utilizing the badges to make it even more engaging. Parents have also responded positively to the curriculum, as I have presented them with the tools we use in session to also incorporate at home.  Overall, I have taken a lot of positives away from this, and am really hopeful that this will give me a better handle on how to make it the most effective group in the future!  I hope all is well with you, and am looking forward to more collaboration as I continue to "research" in individual sessions for the group setting!"
