- Write it. Read it. Edit it. Repeat.
Embracing the Journey of Writing and Gardening: Cultivating Emotional Empowerment and Resilience Write it, read it, edit it, repeat. These principles have guided us throughout the creation of the Third Edition of You Are a Gardener®. Whether writing a book, poem, essay, recipe, or any other composition, reading it aloud significantly enhances the editing process. After making necessary edits, go through the process all over again. When you think you’re finished, start over once more. Sharing your work with a close friend, family member, or colleague can also be incredibly beneficial. We recommend ‘sleeping on it’, if time allows. Sometimes stepping away and returning with fresh eyes helps you catch overlooked details, especially when preparing for publication. The more people review your work, the better. You’ll be surprised by the number of edits we’ve made on our Third Edition (coming soon). During our assemblies and author visits, we love to connect with children and students by sharing our writing journey and encouraging self-publishing efforts. You Are a Gardener® was self-published in 2017 because we didn’t want to wait. Establishing the right connections with editors and publishers can be a lengthy process, and we felt our book needed to be shared to help sow the seeds of emotional empowerment and resilience among gardeners of all ages. Inspired by Gardener Anna and Gardener Aidan during their childhood, we witnessed how quickly our family transformed weeds into seeds. This journey motivated us to embrace a mindset rooted in gratitude, empathy, kindness, and respect, ultimately leading us to plant our own seeds and publish our book. Today, You Are a Gardener® has blossomed into a cherished resource for families, educators, and young readers alike. Our mission remains steadfast: to nurture a new generation of emotionally empowered gardeners. Through our book, our #PullYourWeeds® Blog, and our school assemblies & educational programs we aim to equip gardeners of all ages with the ‘gardening tools’ they need to help navigate the weeds (life's challenges) with grace and resilience. Our community of gardeners continues to grow, each member bringing their unique experiences and insights, enriching the collective wisdom of our journey. As we embark on the next chapter of You Are a Gardener, we invite you to join us. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a young gardener just starting to plant your first seeds, there's always room to grow. Together, we can create a world where emotional well-being flourishes, and every gardener, no matter how small, thrives with the vibrant colors of compassion, kindness, respect, empathy, and hope. And always remember gardeners, write it, read it, edit it, repeat...and just keep growing! The journey of writing & gardening is a continuous process, one that requires patience, dedication, and confidence. By sharing our stories and supporting each other, we cultivate a community rich in understanding and resilience. Thank you for being a part of our garden. We look forward to growing with you, one seed at a time. Stay connected, stay inspired, and most importantly, keep pulling those weeds and planting seeds of positivity. Happy gardening! Join us on the journey of writing and gardening, cultivating emotional empowerment and resilience. Write it. Read it. Edit it. Repeat. Keep growing!

- Thriving Through Stress-5 Things To Ask Yourself When You Are Stuck In The Weeds
As gardeners, we often experience overwhelming stress and anxiety, what we commonly refer to as being "stuck in the weeds." Today, we're sharing some insightful questions to ask yourself during these times that can help gardeners of all ages navigate these challenging times and move towards thriving through stress. The sooner we recognize our ' weeds ' aka stress, communicate with trusted individuals, and select healthy ‘gardening tools’ to improve our well-being, the more we can sow the seeds for personal growth and flourish through our journey. 5 Things To Ask Yourself When You Are Stuck In The Weeds- (stressed/anxious) What is the exact thing that is making me stressed? Recognizing and identifying the specific factors causing stress is extremely important for our emotional growth. When that ‘weed’ pops up, the quicker we can pinpoint it, the sooner we can cultivate a more peaceful state of mind. Am I focusing on something that has already happened? When we find ourselves stressing about an uncomfortable situation that has previously occurred, we are choosing to focus on something that we cannot change the result of. As gardeners, what we can choose is finding that peaceful path forward and growing through that situation (weeds to seeds). Am I worried about something that ‘could’ happen? When we find ourselves negatively thinking about things that could happen, we are choosing to focus on things we have no control over. We cannot predict nor control the future and worrying about possible outcomes only keeps us wrapped up in our ‘weeds’ and an anxious mindset. By acknowledging that we lack control over the future, we can cultivate a more clear and peaceful mindset. Who can I talk to about how I am feeling? As gardeners, it's important to recognize that we are never truly alone. There are countless supportive gardeners ready to help us 'pull our weeds' by discussing our stresses and concerns. This could be a family member, teacher, counselor, therapist, or a trusted community member. Remember gardeners, we are not alone. Sharing and communicating about our stress is essential for our growth as we navigate through life's challenges and ‘grow through what we go through’. What ‘gardening tools’ can I choose to help myself feel calm? As gardeners, we hold the power to help ourselves choose healthy ‘gardening tools’ to keep ourselves rooted in a calm, confident, and creative mindset. The more gardening tools we have in our emotional toolbox, the more prepared we will be when we face difficult feelings, challenging emotions, and stressful situations. Some of our favorite gardening tools are gratitude exercises, mindfulness activities, deep breathing, and meditation. Remember, every gardener faces their own unique set of challenges, but it is through these trials that we find strength and resilience and turn our weeds into seeds. By taking the time to reflect, seek support, and empower ourselves with the right strategies and gardening tools, we can transform our weeds into vibrant gardens of growth and positive change. Embrace the process, trust in your abilities, and know that with patience and care, you will not only manage to navigate through the weeds but also cultivate a thriving, beautiful garden that stands as a testament to your ability to grow through what you go through. Discover 5 insightful questions to ask yourself when feeling 'stuck in the weeds' and learn how to navigate stress, anxiety, and thrive through challenges.

- Nature-Inspired Art: Transform Pinecones into Beautiful Flower Creations
Nature-Inspired Art: Transform Pinecones into Beautiful Flower Creations Hello gardeners! Today, we are excited to introduce Gardener Kelsey's brand-new video, where she shows us how to create Pinecone Flower Art. This easy craft is perfect for gardeners of all ages, and you can let your creativity flow by choosing how detailed or abstract you want to be. --> Scroll down to watch Gardener Kelsey's step-by-step video on how to make Flower Pinecone Art & scroll all the way down to collect your Gardening Tool Badge for this activity! Here's what you need to get started: pinecone scales*, a canvas, paint, and a glue stick or hot glue gun. -Begin by painting the inner tip of the pinecone scale in yellow, orange, or any color you prefer – this will form the flower's center. -While the paint dries, work on painting the background of your canvas (Gardener Kelsey opted for an abstract blue sky). -Once the pinecone scales are dry, paint the remaining part to represent the petals. Gardener Kelsey used pink and orange for hers. -After everything is completely dry, attach the pinecone scales to your canvas to create flower shapes. A glue gun is recommended with adult supervision; however, a glue stick can be used for younger gardeners, although it may not hold as securely. Enjoy creating your pinecone art, gardeners! This craft is not only enjoyable but also beneficial for our social and emotional well-being, as it connects us with nature, teaches us patience, sparks creativity, and helps us focus on the present moment, keeping our minds off our weeds. Fun Facts about Pinecone Scales: Function: Pinecone scales open and close based on weather conditions, facilitating seed dispersal when the climate is favorable. Male vs. Female Cones: Both male and female pine cones have scales, but female cones, which are typically known as "pinecones," hold the seeds. Technical Term: In botany, a cone scale is referred to as a "sporophyll." *Each individual piece of a pinecone is called a "scale". A pinecone is made up of overlapping, plate-like structures called scales that protect the seeds inside until they are mature enough to be released. - From Pages to Progress: How Our Program Transforms Lives Beyond the Classroom
From Pages to Progress: How Our Program Transforms Lives Beyond the Classroom We absolutely love receiving follow-up stories from the schools we work with. These stories not only warm our hearts but also remind us of the real impact our collaborations have on students and educators alike. Today, we have a heartfelt letter from one of our schools that beautifully illustrates the positive changes brought about by our programs. Here's an inspiring story that was shared with us just last week.... Hello Shanna, I hope you are doing well and have lots of wonderful assemblies/programs lined up for this school year! I wanted to pass along a story I was told. One of our paraprofessionals works with "at-risk" children after school. She shared with me that she has been using your book with her 3rd grade student. The student was having some trouble regulating her emotions at home and was acting out. The para started reading your book every time she went and implemented a physical activity that represented pulling weeds for the student. They also implemented a gratitude jar together. The best part of the story is that IT WORKS! The student is able to focus on pulling the weeds, and the family is reporting less outbursts. I wanted you to know that you are "spreading seeds" beyond what you even know! Keep up the great work – you really do make a difference! For the privacy of the student, names/school information is withheld. Stories like these remind us of the power of our work and the incredible ripple effect it can have. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute positively to our community and to receive such heartfelt and encouraging feedback. Your support and inspiration fuel our passion and drive us to continue striving for excellence. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us, and for making a difference, one story at a time. ~Shanna Truffini You Are a Gardener® goes beyond the pages of a book; it is a complete platform committed to spreading the seeds for positive change among gardeners of all ages. From school assemblies to educational initiatives and our #PullYourWeeds® Blog, we are digging into to doing our part to create a more peaceful, compassionate, calmer, and kinder world. Join us today & dig into making a difference!
- You Are An Author -
You Are An Author : Just as gardeners sow seeds, you sow the chapters of your own story... Hello, gardeners! Today, we're shifting focus from seeing ourselves as gardeners to embracing the role of authors – yes, that's right! Just as we sow seeds for positive change in our gardens, we are also all authors creating intricate stories in our own lives. Every single day, every moment, we pen the chapters of our own life’s book. Each decision we make, each challenge we overcome, and each joy we experience becomes a part of our own unique narrative. As gardeners growing through what we go through, we too can choose the values and actions that shape our own life's story. It's important to be mindful of the words we use, the characters we invite, and the stories we share. Our thoughts shape our words in our book, so to create a positive, joyful narrative, we must maintain an optimistic and constructive mindset. When we dwell on 'weeds' (negative thoughts) and engage in pessimistic inner dialogue, we are essentially foreshadowing future chapters. These negative elements manifest into forthcoming parts of our own story. As authors (and gardeners), we hold the power to rewrite our paths, to edit out our negativity (our weeds), and to highlight the beauty and lessons learned along the way (our seeds) . Our stories are not just for ourselves but can inspire and uplift other gardeners. They can serve as a testament to resilience, growth, and the human spirit. Each day offers us the chance to rewrite our life's direction. We can sow seeds of positivity for our future selves by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, using uplifting words and actions in our interactions, and envisioning positive outcomes. This empowers us to write narratives blooming with love, success, celebration, and contentment. So, as you go about your day gardeners, remember that you are both a gardener and the author of your life. Plant seeds of kindness, water them with compassion, and watch your story flourish into a beautiful, inspiring masterpiece. Happy gardening and happy writing!
