  • Best Day Ever...

Yesterday I had the greatest pleasure to present my #PullYourWeeds® Workshop to Aidan's entire 4th grade class. It was so much fun for Aidan to be running the workshop inside the classroom, while I joined in virtually. It was a beautiful moment for our family to be able to share our 'seeds' with Aidan's classmates. "Thank you so much. The class truly enjoyed the presentation and the origami! Everything about it was just wonderful. We are so lucky to have had both Aidan and Anna in our class and we are going to miss you all! Love the resources you shared and each child will receive a certificate. Going to use the word find as our morning work tomorrow :) " Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and thank you again! Sarah (Aidan's Teacher) The #PullYourWeeds™️ Program is rooted in the power of the words flowers, weeds and seeds. As an educator, our students deal with so much, from academic pressure to peer pressure. Social media along with the pandemic has heightened our already anxious children. Shanna Truffini's book along with her academic workshops target today's students brilliantly. The message of managing anxiety and practicing mindfulness is clear and universally age appropriate. The students' response to Shanna's workshop along with her book was incredible to witness. Now more than ever, integrating mindfulness should be a top priority for all districts, parents, and educators. I highly recommend contacting Shanna for more information regarding the "You are a Gardener" program. She is relatable, knowledgeable, and creative in tailoring parts of her program to fit your individual needs. As an educator and a mother, I can't speak highly enough about Shanna and her incredible program she has created." -Mrs. Stacey Imbimbo- Grade 4 Teacher Bayberry Elementary School The #PullYourWeeds™️ Program is rooted in the power of the words flowers, weeds and seeds. • #TheFutureIsFlowers

Hello Gardeners! We always say the most powerful 'gardening tool' we have to 'Pull Your Weeds' is talking about it! Talking with someone we trust about the things that make us feel sad, scared, embarrassed, lonely, left out, etc, not only provides us with emotional support but it also provides positive solutions to move forward confidently...and that's what we call turning 'weeds into seeds'! As gardeners there are so many 'gardening tools' available to help us feel more in control of our emotions and help us get to a calmer and clearer state of mind. So, today on the #PullYourWeeds Blog we're sharing a throwback craft (gardening tool) that's making a big comeback! We are making Positive Affirmation Fortune Tellers for when you need a little extra boost of positivity! Our prediction is... #TheFutureIsFlowers Here is what you'll need: A square piece of paper Markers First, fold all four corners of your square piece of paper in towards the center of the square. Then flip over your folded paper and repeat - fold all four corners towards the center. Then slide your two index fingers and two thumbs underneath the four corners and pop open the cootie catcher! Next, lay flat and on the flaps where you place your fingers, write your 4 favorite flowers. Flip over your flattened cootie catcher and write numbers in each eighth of the square. Then, flip open the number flaps and write four positive affirmations that are meaningful to you! And there you have it! Please share your photos with us.. we love to see our seeds spreading! Do you have a fun craft that involves #PositiveAffirmations? Tag us @youareagardener or email flowers@youareagardener.com to share!

  • Watering Weeds

The seeds for You Are a Gardener® were planted in 2017 when Shanna Truffini heard a friend compare stress and anxiety to "watering your weeds". Focusing on negative thoughts and feelings is extremely common for most people, especially kids. According to the National Science Foundation, "an average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those, 80% are negative and 95% are repetitive thoughts. If we repeat those negative thoughts, we think negative way more than we think positive thoughts." In efforts to help raise a new generation of emotionally empowered kids our mission is to provide children with a universal vocabulary* to help them identify these 'weeds' and teach them tools to help them turn their "hose or watering cans" back to their "flowers"! Scroll down for our Top 10 favorite 'gardening tools' to help you water your flowers instead of your weeds! When you find yourself 'watering your weeds' here are some easy gardening tools to help you redirect your thoughts and energy back to your 'flowers': Take 5 Deep Breaths Color Journal About Your Feelings Do A Craft Take A Walk Bake Something Play An Instrument Dance Do A Puzzle Listen To Your Favorite Song *You Are a Gardener®, Flowers, Weeds, Seeds, Pull Your Weeds!
